Volunteers
Help us put an end to Domestic Violence!
The Women's Center of Rhode Island welcomes volunteers who want to help
break the cycle of violence in our community. Volunteers receive specialized
training by professional staff, and provide critical residential and administrative
support services. There are many ways that you can make a difference in
the lives of women and children escaping abuse:
Become a Domestic Violence Hotline Volunteer
Offer emotional support, safety planning, referrals and crisis intervention
to our 24-hour Help line callers.
Become a Children's Enrichment Program Volunteer
Assist the Child Advocate in all aspects of child development and parenting
support for residents of our shelter. Several opportunities are available:
Evening Groups: Assist child advocates in facilitating the social
skills groups, the violence prevention group, the early childhood group,
or the teen self esteem group.
Homework Tutoring: Work individually or in small groups with children
on their homework or enrichment projects for school. Tutoring sessions
are held from 3:30-5 PM daily Monday through Thursday.
Mentoring: Pair up with an individual resident child to
work on special projects, field trips, or additional programming in an
effort to serve as a role model and foster a positive relationship.
Administrative Assistance: Assist child advocates in curriculum
development, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, development and implementation
of Saturday programming, and/or arranging field trips.
Volunteer Advisory Committee: All children's enrichment
program volunteers have the opportunity to participate in the volunteer
advisory committee. As part of the committee, volunteers are divided into
subcommittees to work on projects that they are interested in bringing
to the children's enrichment program. The committee serves as a venue
for volunteers to actively participate in the growth of the program by
voicing their feedback, ideas, and concerns.
Become a Court Volunteer Work with us to provide advocacy
and support to victims of domestic violence in district court.
Become an Administrative Volunteer
Provide marketing, fundraising and general clerical support to WCRI administrative staff.
