Volunteer/Intern Opportunities
Help us provide vital services to victims of domestic
violence! The Women's Center of Rhode Island welcomes
interns/volunteers who want to help break the cycle of violence
in our community. Interns/volunteers receive specialized
training by professional staff in order to provide critical
hotline, residential, court advocacy, and administrative
support services.
Hotline/Front Desk
Offer emotional support, safety planning, referrals, and
crisis intervention to our 24-hour hotline callers. Assist
victims of domestic violence get away from their abusive
partners and
get to a safe place.
Children's Enrichment Program
Supervise children during group activities. On nights and
weekends, coordinate games and craft activities. Be a mentor
and a positive role model in the lives of children affected
by domestic violence.
Community Education
We are looking for volunteers committed to ending intimate
partner violence in the Providence/ East Providence communities.
Engage the community in discussions around intimate partner
violence. Help to schedule workshops, tabling, and create
fun projects to engage youth in healthy relationships.
The Men's Initiative
We are looking for males interested in ending intimate partner
violence within their community. The Men's Initiative is
currently running a Young Men's Work program and is seeking
males 18+ to assist in implementation of the program in
Providence and East Providence. Other opportunities for
community outreach, education, and fundraising for the Men's
Initiative are available.
Outreach
Letting our community know we exist is an important step
in the intervention process. We need individuals to represent
WCRI at a variety of community events such as health fairs,
conferences and schools. You will receive specific training
on how to handle questions from victims and be able to provide
important resource materials.
Maintenance/House Keeping
If sitting at a desk does not appeal to you, consider helping
us maintain a clean and safe environment. Tasks can include
anything from washing floors to raking leaves.
Administrative Volunteer
If you do not have a lot of time, becoming one of our Administrative
Volunteers might be a good option. Provide general clerical
support to staff and help with organizing donations. We
have many special events throughout the year that require
assistance including cell phone drives, grant writing, and
holiday celebrations.
Cell Phone Collection Drive
Employed at a large company, going to school or simply have
a large social network? WCRI collects old cell phones and
recycles them to help support the agency's work. This is
an easy way to help victims of domestic violence.
Day of Service
Do you know a small group of people interested in volunteering
their time to help benefit their community? Please consider
donating your time to assist a great cause.
Have a special talent or skill you would like to share?
We are always eager to create new and exciting activities
to help improve the lives of women and children who have
experienced interpersonal violence.
