Volunteer/Intern
Opportunities
Help us provide vital services to victims of domestic
violence! The Women's Center of Rhode Island welcomes
interns/volunteers who want to help break the cycle of violence
in our community. Interns/volunteers receive specialized
training by professional staff in order to provide critical
hotline, residential, and administrative support services.
Hotline/Front Desk Volunteer
Offer emotional support, safety planning, referrals, and
crisis intervention to our 24-hour hotline callers. Assist
victims of domestic violence to get away from their abusive
partners and get to a safe place.
Children's Enrichment Program
Supervise children during group activities. On nights and
weekends, help children do homework by giving them individual
attention and guidance.
Court Advocacy Program
Provide advocacy and support to victims of domestic
violence involved in the criminal justice process. Conduct
follow-up calls to victims who have recently been involved
in a domestic disturbance as well as assist with program
documentation.
Administrative Volunteer
If you do not have a lot of time, becoming one of our Administrative
Volunteers might be a good option. Provide general clerical
support to staff and help with organizing donations. We
have many special events throughout the year that require
assistance including cell phone drives, grant writing and
holiday celebrations.
Community Outreach and Education
Interested in learning about our primary prevention
educational programs? Teach youth how to build healthy relationships,
communicate feelings, and recognize red flags of dating
abuse. Or join our community partnership team and help plan
strategies to prevent intimate partner violence in Providence.
The Mens Initiative
Hey all you guys out there, wondering how you can help
out at the Womens Center? Well wonder no more. We
have a program called the Mens Initiative that engages
men in the movement to prevent domestic violence. You can
help out in a variety of areas including fundraising, event
planning, community outreach, and education.
Maintenance/House Keeping
If sitting at a desk does not appeal to you, consider
helping us maintain a clean and safe environment. Tasks
can include anything from washing floors to raking leaves.
Day of Service
Do you know a small group of people interested in volunteering
their time to help benefit their community? Please consider
donating your time to assist a great cause.
Have a special talent or skill you would like to share?
We are always eager to create new and exciting activities
to help improve the lives of women and children who have
experienced interpersonal violence.
